The government is emphasizing trade diplomacy, which is why the foreign ministry and every embassy have been given instructions regarding this matter, the prime minister said. The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the Dhaka International Trade Fair on Saturday (1 January). From Ganobhaban, she virtually joined the ceremony at the fairgrounds of Purbachal, Dhaka.
Although the trade fair has been held in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar for so long, this time the 26th event was held in the new town of RAJUK in Purbachal.
The Prime Minister said, ‘We have completed feasibility studies on 23 countries for the implementation of bilateral and regional trade agreements, free trade agreements, and integrated economic agreements. We are working with a special vision to make it easier for all to do business, that is, to maintain our status as a developing country and to face any challenges that may arise.’
Highlighting the country’s export growth despite the COVID-19 pandemic, she said goods worth about USD 436 million were exported in the 2020-21 fiscal year. Overall exports have increased. But we all have to work together to move forward. The time is ours. It’s Bangladesh’s time. We have to remember this.
To encourage product-based exports, a product is declared ‘Product of the Year’ every year. The Prime Minister announced ICT product services as the product of the year for 2022.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, FBCCI President Jashim Uddin, and Export Development Bureau Vice Chairman AHM Ahsan were present at the event held at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal.
