The Bangladesh-Korea Joint PPP platform meeting was held on Wednesday (2 February) in Seoul, the capital of Korea. The meeting was jointly organised by the Public-Private Partnership Authority of Bangladesh (PPPA Bangladesh), Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND), and the Republic of Korea.
The delegation from Bangladesh was led by Sultana Afroz, Secretary and CEO of Public-Private Partnership Authority of Bangladesh; also present were Amin Ullah Nuri, Chairman of Capital Development Authority, Managing Director of DESCO Md. Kawsar Amir Ali, Mohammad Nazmul Abedin, Joint Secretary of Power Department, Abul Bashar, Director General of PPPA Bangladesh, and many more.
Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Kaikaus joined the meeting online from Bangladesh. Dr. Ahmed Kaikaus said that Korea is working with Bangladesh on several large-scale projects and the Bangladesh government is now urging Korean investors to come forward with large infrastructure projects.
Referring to some important investments, he said that the Public-Private Partnership Authority is already working on a mandate to help private investors, and government officials are ready to help them.
PPP Authority Bangladesh Secretary and CEO Sultana Afroz thanked KIND and MOLIT for organising the event. She briefly mentioned various incentives of the government to attract foreign investors.
She said that Bangladesh now has a technological, legal, social, and commercial environment conducive for foreign investors to work in the public-private partnership model.
KIND Director Soo Eung Kim gave greetings and thanks to the participants. KIND President and CEO Mr. Kang Lee expressed pleasure at being able to complete the event despite the pandemic.
The agreement between the PPP Authority and KIND has further strengthened the trusting partnership between the two countries, said Seong Won Yun, Vice Minister of MOLIT. As a result, four infrastructural plans have been drawn up for the construction of roads, bridges, railways, and transmission lines through the joint PPP platform of Korea and Bangladesh.
