
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that the ones responsible for the incident can not be identified until the investigation is completed. However, we will have zero tolerance in the implementation of the investigation report.
The State Minister made the remarks at a press briefing after visiting the BM container depot on Monday (6 June) afternoon. At the time, the State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, Deputy Minister of Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel, Sitakunda MP Didarul Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Kamrul Hasan, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority Rear Admiral M Shahjahan were present.
The State Minister for Shipping said that an investigation committee has been set up. Nothing can be said before the report arrives. However, such an incident has been a great loss to us. In particular, it is a blow to the image of our country. The trade that we do internationally is facing many questions. So we have zero tolerance in this regard. We will take action according to what comes out of the investigation.
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman MP said that the government has taken responsibility for the complete treatment of those injured in the fire and explosion at the BM container depot. However much money will be required, and the medicine that has to be purchased from outside is also being given by DC Sir.
He said that maximum treatment was being provided to the injured. There is no shortage of medicines and food. Everything needed for treatment will be arranged.
The dead bodies of 41 people have been recovered. Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman said that 9 of them are from the fire service. The bodies have been handed over to 22 families.
Mentioning that the Prime Minister has directed for maximum cooperation, the State Minister said that Tk 1 crore has been allocated after receiving the information from them. 2,000 packets of dry food have been allotted. At present, 82 people are being treated at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, 2 at Chittagong General Hospital, 10 at Parkview Hospital, 4 at Chittagong Maternal and Child Hospital, and 14 at Sheikh Hasina’s Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka. The army has taken responsibility for 7 people for advanced treatment, 2 of whom are undergoing treatment in ICU.
