Smart Group General Manager Major (retd.) Shamsul Haider Siddiqui claimed that 25 companies have up-to-date licenses and clearances at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda.
He made this claim while exchanging views with journalists at a restaurant in Lalkhan Bazar on Thursday (7 July) afternoon.
At that time, BM depot General Manager Mainul Ahsan, Director Shafiqur Rahman, Yasin Majumdar, and other senior officials were present.
Shamsul Haider Siddiqui said that there was a loss of thousands of crores of taka in the fire, and hundreds of exporters have sought compensation from the BM depot. Steps have already been taken to unload the valuable import-export goods of various companies which are still intact in the depot.
He said that in 2010, BM depot was established with a domestic and foreign investment of about Tk 500 crore. Since then, the BM depot is conducting operational activities of the depot in compliance with the licenses and clearances of 25 companies. At present, all the licenses and clearances of all companies are up-to-date. Copies of all licenses and clearances have been given to all government inquiry committees.
He said that the families of 26 people who died and 43 people who were injured have been given an assistance of Tk 5 crores and 67 lacs. After the accident, about 600 officers and employees of the organisation have been given salaries for the months of May and June and bonuses for Eid-ul-Azha. Salary allowance and bonus money have been delivered to the homes of the dead and injured.
Mentioning that facing the weak side of this accident will provide motivation to stand anew, he said, we will learn from this accident. Others should also be careful about this.
In response to a question, he said, ‘We have not yet received the investigation report of any government agency. Necessary action will be taken after receiving the investigation report and suggestions.’
