Cargo transport strike lifted

Transport owners and workers have been on strike since last Friday demanding withdrawal of increased fuel prices, withdrawal of increased toll at Bangabandhu and Muktarpur bridges, and cessation of toll collection from freight vehicles in city corporations and municipalities. After a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday night, the leaders of Bangladesh Covered Van, Truck, Prime Mover Owners-Workers Unity Council informed about the decision to lift the strike.


They said that they have had fruitful discussions with the Home Minister. So from then on (last night at 10:30 pm), the indefinite transport strike has been lifted.


The meeting was attended by Anisur Rahman, Senior Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Department, Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Senior Secretary of Public Safety Department, Nazrul Islam, Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department and Nur Mohammad Majumder, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
