Chittagong Port Authority has requested the importers to speed up the unloading of LCL container goods (containers carrying goods of multiple importers) lying in various sheds and CFS (container freight stations) of Chittagong port. If the expected speed of unloading of goods is not reached by 10 April, four times the store rent or warehouse rent will be imposed from the next day. The port authority said this in a notification signed by the Director (transport) on Sunday (27 March).

‘Imports are not being unloaded by importers even though the LCL container products have been unstaffed (stored in the shed after unloading),’ the statement said. Almost the entire shed is full of products. As a result, products cannot be unstaffed from new LCL containers. The normal activities of the port are being disrupted.

In this situation, the speed of unloading goods will be observed till 10 April, after which is if it does not speed up according to expectation then four times the store rent or warehouse rent will be imposed after four days from unstaffing. The fare will be charged in accordance with Section 160 of the Regulations for Working Chittagong Port (Cargo and Container) 2001.
