Panama’s flagbearing ship MV Franbo Lohas has arrived at Mongla port with the construction materials for Bangabandhu Railway Bridge, the largest railway bridge in the country. On 14 June, the ship docked at the port’s jetty no. 7 with construction materials for the bridge. The ship’s local agent Haque & Sons manager Md. Shawkat Ali said, “The ship has brought 3 thousand and 288 metric tons of steel pipes and piles for Bangabandhu Railway Bridge, which are being released by local workers.”
Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, chairman of Mongla Port Authority, said, “Goods for the Bangabandhu Bridge have arrived from Vietnam.”
The foundation stone of the railway bridge was laid in November 2020, 300 metres north of the Bangabandhu Bridge over the Jamuna river. The construction cost of the longest bridge with a length of 4.8 Km has been estimated at BDT 16 thousand 781 crore.
