112 luxury cars auctioned for the fifth time

Chittagong Customs House is auctioning 112 luxury cars for the fifth time. These cars have not been sold even though they have been auctioned four times before. So the auction has been called for the fifth time. Customs House has selected 3 and 4 November for the submission of tenders in five places including Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Mongla. Besides, e-auction (online auction) has been arranged. The customs will get the desired price; space will be emptied at the port through the sale of cars and a large revenue will be deposited in the government treasury.

These luxury cars were put up for auction in August 2016, May 2017, 30 May 2018, and 16 April 2019. At that time it was not possible to sell the cars as they did not get the desired price.

There are luxury cars from high-end brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Land Cruiser, Land Rover, Jaguar, Lexus, and Mitsubishi made in Germany, Japan, USA, and UK. The vehicles have been parked at Chittagong port since 2011.

If the price is less than 60% of the reserve price, it has to be auctioned a second time. Then it has to be sold at a higher price than the first time. However, Customs has the authority to sell at any price the third time around. Chittagong Customs House Deputy Commissioner Al Amin said, ‘If there are any problems in the car, it will be taken into consideration and the price will be reduced accordingly. However, CP has to be collected from the Ministry of Commerce on their own initiative. In this case, we will be cooperative. I will meet the Ministry of Commerce and ask for special permission for 112 vehicles. In this case, the reasonable price of the car has to be asked.’
