Another consignment of Metrorail has arrived at Mongla port. At 7:30 pm on Friday (12 November), the Panama flag-carrying ‘Bright Coral’ ship anchored at jetty number 9, with four bogies and two engines. The ship, which left the port of Kobe in Japan on 25 October, also carried 423 metric tonnes of equipment in 80 packages in addition to Metrorail bogies. This information was given by Sheikh Fakhar Uddin, Harbour Master Commander of Mongla Port Authority.
He said that the process of unloading the goods at the jetty has started from Saturday (13 November) morning. The ship’s local shipping agent Ancient Steam Ship Company Manager Md. Wahiduzzaman said, “A total of 48 bogies of Metrorail have reached Mongla port in six ships.”
Another shipment of Metrorail is expected to arrive next month. He also said that by 2022, 98 more bogies and engines of Metrorail will arrive. Earlier, a total of 44 bogies arrived at the Mongla port in five ships. These bogies have already been added and are being operated experimentally.
Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, said that there was proof of the port’s ability to unload these imported Metrorail bogies through the Mongla port. Earlier, various goods and parts of Rooppur nuclear power plant were unloaded through Mongla port.
