Bangladesh and UAE will work together for the development of 12 sectors, including marine environment

The fifth meeting of the Bangladesh-United Arab Emirates (UAE) Joint Commission (JC) has identified 12 potential sectors. At the meeting, the two sides reviewed various issues in the field of bilateral cooperation and identified these areas for enhancing cooperation. Among them are cooperation in the development of bilateral economic and trade relations, cooperation in manpower, employment and consular sector, private aviation, tourism and cultural cooperation.

The meeting was held in Dhaka on Monday (15 November) under the joint chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh. The team leaders of both the delegations participated virtually in the fifth JC meeting held in a hybrid (physical and virtual) manner. The meeting was attended by senior officials of various ministries and government agencies of both countries.

Assistance in investment-related cooperation, increased cooperation through Abu Dhabi Development Fund, cooperation in power, energy and mineral resources sector, cooperation in information and communication technology sector, cooperation in education, science and technology sector, cooperation in the marine environment development sector, cooperation in agriculture, cooperation in healthcare and health education sector, and cooperation in humanitarian and charity related sector has been identified.

The Finance Minister said it was a matter of great pleasure that both Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates were celebrating the golden jubilee of independence at the same time. The foundation of a strong friendship between Bangladesh and the UAE was laid through the historic meeting of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan during the official visit of Father of our Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the UAE in 1974. Both our governments are keen to follow that path and make the most of our potential for cooperation on trade, investment and development.

The 5th Joint Commission Meeting between Bangladesh and UAE was held based on mutual understanding, friendship, and mutual respect. After fruitful discussions between the representatives of the two countries, a ‘consent agreement’ was signed.

The team leaders of both parties signed the agreed minutes of the meeting. The date of the next joint commission meeting will be decided later by negotiations, which both sides agreed to hold in Abu Dhabi.
