‘Bangladesh is about to enter the era of new and highly advanced technology in the transportation and distribution of imported refined and crude oil. The government is implementing a project to modernise the country’s only oil refinery.’
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid MP made the remarks at Hotel Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View while inaugurating a fair of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) in Chattogram on 18 November.
He added, ‘The pipeline is being laid at a depth of about 160 km under the sea. It will be possible to easily unload oil in just 12 hours from a large ship situated in the deep sea. As a result, savings worth about Taka 1 thousand crore can be made on the price of oil per year. If this is implemented, there will be no need for lighter ships to unload oil.’
Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation Rezaul Karim, Vice President-1 of REHAB Kamal Mahmud, Vice President and Chairman of Chattogram Regional Committee Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
