Chittagong Customs House has seized a large consignment brought on the false declaration. The seized goods include blankets, prayer mats, cosmetics, kitchenware, electronics and about 75 other items. The seized consignment contained about 7,500 kg of goods. On 20 November, Sharifuddin, deputy commissioner of the AIR branch of customs, confirmed the matter.
According to custom house sources, the container arrived at Chittagong port from Port Louis, Mauritius on 8 February by Kota Nazar ship. After that, Prottoy International- the C&F agent of Agrabad Noor Chamber in Chattogram, which is nominated by the importer for unloading the goods as per the rules, notified the bill of entry in the ASYCUDA World System of the National Board of Revenue on 17 July.
But due to confidential information about the consignment, it was locked by ASYCUDA World System. During the physical examination, prayer mats, several sorts of cosmetics, food, and over 75 different types of baggage products were discovered instead of the material for making blankets that the importer had reported. After removing all the products from the container, almost each of the 238 packages had details including the names, addresses and mobile numbers of the senders and recipients on the inner package. A total of 7,570 kg of products including 1,551 blankets (4,557 kg), 483 prayer mats (476 kg), 120 kg of various types of cosmetics, 200 kg of various types of electronics were found in it.
