Memorandum of Understanding signed between Thai Port Authority and Chittagong port

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Port Authority of Thailand (Ranong Port) and the Chittagong Port Authority of Bangladesh. This information was given in a press release sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (20 December) night.

Chittagong Port Authority member Md. Jafar Alam and Lt. J. G. Dr. Chamnan Chairith, R T N from the Port Authority of Thailand signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective authorities.

The MoU is expected to facilitate trade between Bangladesh and Thailand by increasing sea connectivity, the statement said. This is part of Bangladesh’s broader vision to enhance greater connectivity with neighbouring countries, including the BIMSTEC region.

The MoU will encourage the business community on both sides to explore more trade and investment opportunities, the statement said. Apart from this, both the port authorities will benefit through information exchange and cooperation in port management, operations, information technology, communication, port connectivity, coastal shipping, port-related industries, and investment promotion.

Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, and other senior officials were virtually present at the signing ceremony.
