Bangladesh has received more than USD 21.17 billion in investment proposals in the last two years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The investment proposals have come through various agencies of the government, which is a reflection of the desire of investors to invest in Bangladesh despite multiple lockdowns.
The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has recorded 14.77 billion dollars in investment proposals since the start of the pandemic. The Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) has received investment proposals worth 5 billion dollars and the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has received investment proposals worth 1.35 billion dollars.
BIDA received 7.12 billion dollars in investments in 2020, of which 4.85 billion dollars came from local investors and 2.26 billion dollars from foreign investors and joint ventures. Total investment proposals this year (as of 20 December) reached 7.65 billion dollars, of which 6.85 billion dollars came from local investments and 806.27 million dollars from foreign and joint venture proposals.
