BGMEA, an association of garment owners, wants more help from the government to sustain the growth of the country’s readymade garments industry. The organisation has requested to increase the loan repayment period from the existing 18 months to 36 months under the COVID-19 incentive package. According to the statement, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has asked for some new support during the meeting of the BGMEA delegation with Abdur Rouf Talukder, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Finance at the Secretariat.
The statement also said that BGMEA President Faruque Hassan emphasized the government’s policy support to harness the opportunities of the future in the garment industry and thereby maintain the pace of growth.
He said, ‘The country’s garments industry is going through a crucial period. The industry has unlimited opportunities on one side and many challenges on the other. We need the support of the government to take advantage of these opportunities and meet the challenges.’
During the meeting, BGMEA heads said that the garments industry has made various efforts to sustain growth despite several challenges. In addition, the spread of Omicron, a new variant of COVID-19, worldwide has created concern among garments entrepreneurs. In this situation, the government’s policy support for the industry is essential to face the challenges.
