Chittagong port has crossed the 32 lacs milestone in container handling

Chittagong port has crossed the milestone of handling 32 lacs containers in the just-finished year. Up to the last day of the year, 31 December, this number was 32 lacs 14 thousand and 548 TEU. This is the highest container handling in the history of the port in one year. In the previous year (2020), 28 lacs 39 thousand and 977 TEU containers were handled at Chittagong port. Growth in container handling is 13.19%.

In addition to container handling, handling of cargo or open goods has also increased. In the just-finished year, Chittagong port has handled 11 crores 77 lacs and 24 thousand metric tonnes of goods. In the previous year (2020), 10 crores 32 lacs 9 thousand and 724 metric tonnes were handled. In terms of growth, it is more than 14%.

Ship handling has grown by more than 12%. The port has handled 4,178 ships of all types (cargo and container vessels). In 2020, the number was 3,728.

By overcoming the hurdles of COVID-19, all the three indicators of capacity assessment of the port have been boosted by the relentless efforts of the authority. Modern equipment, regular monitoring, and efficiency with the addition of container and cargo handling in the fastest time have played a major role in this.
