Bangladesh seeks Germany’s cooperation in tackling post-LDC challenges

Bangladesh has sought Germany’s cooperation in increasing trade-related capacity and GSP issues to meet the challenges after transitioning from Least Developed Countries (LDCs). On Monday (3 January), Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi made the request for this cooperation when the German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster visited him at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

Congratulating Germany as the third-largest importer of Bangladeshi goods, the Commerce Minister requested more products from Bangladesh to enter the German market easily.

Tipu Munshi said that the cost of production has increased due to the setting up of eco-friendly factories in Bangladesh and following other compliances including the welfare of workers. By referring to this increase in costs, he expressed hope for Germany’s cooperation in paying a fair price for the export of readymade garments. He urged German investors to invest in the 100 economic zones and 33 hi-tech parks which will be built in Bangladesh.

The German Ambassador gave high praise to the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the recent development of Bangladesh. He expressed Germany’s interest in cooperating to establish a positive image of Bangladesh’s progress in the world. The Ambassador assured that Germany’s cooperation for development and bilateral trade would be further strengthened in Bangladesh.
