Bhutan wants to import fertiliser from Bangladesh

Bhutanese Ambassador Rinchen Kuentsyl meets with Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun

Bhutan has expressed interest in purchasing 2,500 to 3,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser from Bangladesh, said Minister of Industries Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun. On Tuesday (11 January), Bhutanese Ambassador Rinchen Kuentsyl expressed this interest while at the minister’s office room at the Ministry of Industries.

The Minister of Industries said that Bangladesh itself imports fertiliser. However, as Bhutan is a friendly neighbouring country, arrangements will be made to send the required fertiliser to Bhutan from KAFCO at international prices. To this end, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed soon with the BCIC and the relevant authorities of Bhutan in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the Minister of Industries thanked Bhutan for its continued support to Bangladesh during its independence and promised to work closely with Bhutan.

The Ambassador of Bhutan expressed interest in purchasing 2,500 to 3,000 metric tons of fertiliser from Bangladesh and sought the assistance of the Minister of Industries in this regard.

At the time, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) Chairman Shah Md. Imdadul Haque, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Industries, S Alam and Sahab Bin Ahmed, Director, South Asia Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present.
