2,884 reconditioned vehicles have been lying at Mongla port for a long time after being imported. Mongla Customs House is auctioning 132 different models of these vehicles for sale as they weren’t released within the stipulated time. The auction will be held on 18 January.
Of the 132 cars auctioned, 16 of them are brand and model cars. As per the rules, the importers have failed to release these vehicles within 30 days after import. So the cars are being auctioned according to the rules. Prior to this, customs had sold about 2,000 cars at auction last year.
The import of cars through Mongla port first started on 3 June 2009. So far, 1 lac 46 thousand and 163 vehicles have been imported through this port.
