The security arrangements at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port have been praised in the ReCAAP report

The authority has been able to keep the large outer anchorage area of 50 nautical miles of Chittagong port free from piracy in 2021 as well. In 2019, Chittagong port was able to completely free the outer anchorage area from piracy for the first time. Following this, the country’s main seaport passed a piracy-free year for the second time in 2021.

The international organization ReCAAP, which reports on the prevention of armed robbery, piracy, and theft on commercial ships, has published this information in its annual report for 2021. In a report released on Tuesday (18 January) night, ReCAAP praised the success of reducing the number of robberies at Chittagong port. Strengthening surveillance and increasing patrols in the sea have been pointed out as the reasons behind this.

The coast guard monitors the country’s waters up to 12 nautical miles from the coast to the sea. And the navy monitors the waters beyond the 12 nautical miles up to the country’s maritime boundary. Not only in the port, but also outside the port, there were no incidents of piracy or theft in the waters of Bangladesh.

By the end of 2019, the water boundary of Chittagong port has increased from 7.5 nautical miles to 50 nautical miles.
