BGMEA has requested the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) to complete all the construction work of Garments Village in the shortest possible time so that factories can be set up and industrial activities can be started at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar in Mirsarai, Chattogram. On Saturday (5 February), a BGMEA delegation led by BGMEA President Faruque Hassan inspected the progress of the construction of Garments Village. The request was made to the Beza authorities during the BGMEA delegation’s visit.
BGMEA delegation included the first Vice President of the organisation Syed Nazrul Islam, Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Vice President (Finance) Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Md. Nasir Uddin, Vice President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, and directors Md. M Mohiuddin Chowdhury, AM Shafiul Karim (Khokon), Md. Hasan (Jacky), M Ehsanul Haque and Mohammad Miraj-i-Mustafa (Kaiser). BEZA’s senior officials were also present during the visit.
During the visit, members of the BGMEA delegation inspected the overall progress of infrastructure and road construction at the site, as well as gas, water, electricity connections, and other facilities.
Welcoming the government’s initiative to set up a Garments Village, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said that all facilities should be ensured for the garments factories in the Garments Village to run smoothly.
Earlier, BGMEA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with BEZA on 21 March 2018 to set up a Garments Village on 500 acres of land in the industrial city. BEZA authority has assured BGMEA that the Garments Village will be completed and handed over in the shortest possible time.
