MV Songa Cheetah left for Europe from Chittagong port

The ship ‘MV Songa Cheetah’ has left for the Port of Ravenna, Italy with readymade garments from Bangladesh. This marked the beginning of direct container shipping between Bangladesh and Italy. New horizons have opened up in the garments export sector. In this way, it will take only two weeks for the exported garments to reach Europe, and the cost will be reduced by 30%.

The ship left the NCT jetty at Chittagong port on Monday (7 February) at around 2:45 pm with 952 containers. Earlier, Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Chairman of the port authority, inaugurated the shipping activities on the Bangladesh-Italy route at NCT Jetty.

He said that Bangladesh-Italy direct shipping is the beginning of a landmark chapter in our economy. Considering the importance of garment exports, the port authority will give priority to providing all facilities for ships on the Italy-Chattogram route, including berthing, key gantry crane allocation.

The port Chairman added that the ship would be able to bring containers from different ports on its way from Italy. If other shipping lines want to launch such direct ships, the port authority will extend all possible cooperation.

Earlier, on Saturday (5 February) at 12:45 pm, ‘MV Songa Cheetah’ docked at NCT-4 jetty in Chittagong port from Italy.
