The historic Chilmari seaport has reached a new milestone in the path of regaining lost heritage. For the first time since independence, a Bangladeshi flagged vessel has left for India with cargo from this seaport of Kurigram.

On Monday (7 February) at 1:15 pm, a Bangladeshi vessel named Shan Abid-1 set sail from the Kanchkol naval point at Chilmari seaport for Dhubri, India, carrying scrap material.

Zaman Ahmed, a customs clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent, said that the cost of transporting goods from India to the Chilmari seaport is relatively low. This is the first time that goods are going to India in a Bangladeshi vessel from Chilmari seaport even though stones have been coming to Chilmari port from India for a long time. On the first day, a ship named Shan Abid-1 of Legend Consortium Limited left Chilmari seaport for Dhubri, India with 27 tonnes of scrap material.
