Celebrating the 27th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Coast Guard

Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Virtually Joins the Coast Guard Founding Anniversary Ceremony As Chief Guest

The 27th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been celebrated at the Agargaon Coast Guard Headquarters with great enthusiasm, and due dignity. The chief guest on the occasion was Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina (via video conferencing) and the special guest was Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, MP.

In addition, the Senior Secretary of the Department of Public Security Md. Akhtar Hossain and other invited military and civilian guests were present. On behalf of the chief guest, special guests distributed medals for the heroic and courageous deeds of various levels of Coast Guard officers, sailors, civilian officers, and employees.

As a result of the foresight of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, ‘The Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act, 1974’ was enacted to claim our own sea territory. Later, his commendable daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, laid the groundwork for the establishment of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. In 1994, while Bangladesh Awami League was in opposition, the ‘Bangladesh Coastguard Bill’ was introduced in the great National Assembly. The departure of this force took place on 14 February 1995 in terms of this. Initially, the Bangladesh Coast Guard started its journey with two ships and two boats from the Bangladesh Navy and 220 sailors on commission. Later, under the direction of the Prime Minister, new platforms and infrastructure have been added to the force. As a result, the operational activities of the force have gained momentum and many successes have been achieved. Due to the relentless efforts of the Coast Guard, Chittagong port has been cleared from the list of threatened ports and has become a safe port.

The Coast Guard stood by the helpless, the destitute, the unemployed, and the working people with food, in addition to its responsibility for lockdown management and public safety in preventing COVID-19 infections. In the days to come, the Coast Guard is determined to work for the development of the country with the spirit of honesty, professionalism, and patriotism in mind. Above all, the Bangladesh Coast Guard will work tirelessly to fulfil the expectations of the nation with the firm conviction of building the golden Bengal of Bangabandhu’s dream.
