The Ukraine-Russia crisis will not affect the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant

There will be no problems in the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant because of the crisis in Ukraine and Russia, said Rosatom, a Russian state-owned company that is building the plant. Rosatom announced a press release on Tuesday (1 March). They said the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant would not be affected by the Ukraine issue. The project will be completed on time.

Earlier, Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman told several media outlets that the Rooppur power plant would not be affected due to the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that no comments can be made yet on how much impact this war will have.

On 10 October last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first reactor pressure vessel of the nuclear power plant that is under construction at Rooppur in Pabna.

Two units of VVR-technology reactors with a capacity for producing 1,200 MW electricity will be built at Rooppur. The first unit of the centre is scheduled to be launched in 2023 and the second unit in 2024.
