Bangladesh exports a significant amount of readymade garments to Romania. However, there are opportunities to export many more products like furniture, plastic products, medicines, jute and jute products, footwear, and leather products. There is also a possibility of increasing trade and investment between the two countries. For this, a call has been made to set up a Romanian embassy in Dhaka. The call came from a dialogue organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Tuesday (15 March).
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation was the chief guest at the dialogue titled ‘Trade and Investment Prospects between Bangladesh and Romania’. The special guest was Robert Negoita, Mayor of Bucharest, Romania.
In his welcome address, Dhaka Chamber President Rizwan Rahman said, ‘Our specialised economic zones are very promising for foreign investors. Romanian entrepreneurs can come forward to invest in such industrial areas, especially in the automobile sector.’ He also called for further development of relations between the private sector entrepreneurs of the two countries and the establishment of a Romanian Embassy in Dhaka.
Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh also proposed to set up a Romanian Embassy in Bangladesh to further expand the trade and investment potential of the two countries.
Speaking as the special guest, the Mayor of Bucharest, Robert Negoita, said that there is a great deal of unity in the economic activities of the two countries. Besides enhancing communication between the private sector representatives of the two countries, he also proposed to send more trade representatives from Bangladesh.
Also, present on the occasion were former president of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies Benazir Ahmed MP, Member of NSD (Joint Secretary) Md. Nurul Amin etc.
