‘VTMIS’ launched at Mongla port

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP addressed the inaugural function

Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTMIS) has been launched at Mongla port for safe navigation facilities and the security of foreign ships. It was inaugurated by State Minister for Shipping Khalid Chowdhury on Wednesday (16 March) afternoon.

Mongla Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Md. Musa, Port Authority members Commodore Mohammad Abdul Wadud Tarafdar, Md. Imtiaz Hossain, Syed Rabiul Alam, Director (Administration) Md. Shahinur Alam, Harbour Master Commander Sheikh Fakhar Uddin, and other port officials were present.

After inaugurating the VTMIS security system, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that Mongla port will soon take the lead in shipping if the ongoing projects and mega projects of the government are implemented with the dedicated efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Mongla port is the second seaport in Bangladesh, located in the south-western part of the country, about 131 km upstream from the Bay of Bengal. Research has been conducted more than once in the past to provide safe navigation facilities and security for foreign ships. Mongla Port Authority has adopted and implemented a project titled Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTMIS) for safe and uninterrupted shipping. The work of the project has been completed on 30 December 2021.
As a result of the implementation of the project, Mongla Port Authority is operating ships with drafts of more than 10 metres at the Harbaria anchorage.
