Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. AK Abdul Momen met with US President’s special envoy for climate change John Kerry. The meeting was held on Thursday (14 April), the second day of the ‘7th Our Ocean Conference’ in Palau. This has been reported in a press release.

During the meeting, John Kerry praised the steps taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to address climate risks. At the time, the two leaders discussed the possibility of increasing renewable energy in Bangladesh.

Dr. Momen highlighted the potential of Bangladesh in the Blue economy sector through the use of marine resources. He called on the United States to increase efficiency and create employment opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

John Kerry pledged US support for embankment height and widening projects, including afforestation and increasing renewable energy generation capacity in Bangladesh’s coastal areas.

The two also discussed ways to enhance Bangladesh’s ability to combat maritime pollution as part of the ‘Our Ocean Conference’ discussion.

Bangladesh Foreign Ministry Secretary (Maritime Affairs) Md. Khurshid Alam and Bangladesh Ambassador to Palau FM Borhan Uddin were present at the meeting.
