Bangladesh needs to qualify to get GSP Plus benefits

German Ambassador to Dhaka Achim Tröster

European Union (EU) and Germany have the same trade policy. After graduating from LDC in 2026, Bangladesh will get three more years from the EU. If Bangladesh wants GSP Plus benefits, it will have to qualify for that, which will be harder than the current GSP.

This was stated by the German Ambassador to Dhaka Achim Tröster at a function organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the National Press Club on Wednesday (20 April).

The German ambassador said that in order to get GSP Plus benefits, 27 international certificates have to be signed. And most of these certificates deal with human rights and international labour standards. Signing these will not mean that Bangladesh will need these to be effective immediately. But there has to be a positive trend in implementing these.
