BGMEA President Faruque Hassan during a meeting with NBR member Hossain Ahmed

Faruque Hassan, president of BGMEA, an association of export-oriented ready-made garments industry owners, said it was important to update and simplify business processes in line with the changing global trade situation to maintain the competitiveness of the garments industry in the global market. He called for simplification of business processes, including customs and bonds, to harness the new potential of the garments industry.

He made the request during a meeting with NBR member (customs export, bonds, and IT) Hossain Ahmed at the NBR office in Dhaka on Thursday (21 April). BGMEA President Shahidullah Azim and Commissioner of Customs Bond Commissionerate Kazi Mostafizur Rahman were present at the meeting.

The BGMEA leaders requested the NBR to resolve various issues related to tariffs and bonds of garments exporters, especially those related to the HS code. The leaders requested the National Board of Revenue to take necessary steps to add new raw materials and other related materials to the HS code in the bond licenses.

Businessmen have also requested for correction of waste rate in making woven garments from yarns and fabrics and for the opportunity to correct unintentional errors and typos in export bills or shipping bills.

The BGMEA leaders called for the identification of fraudsters involved in the illegal import of raw materials through business identification numbers (BIN) of export-oriented garments factories and demanded exemplary punishment for them.
At this time NBR member Hossain Ahmed assured the BGMEA leaders that steps would be taken to resolve the issues raised.
