Chittagong Port Authority has celebrated the 135th ‘Port Day’. Today (25 April) morning, the celebration of the day began with the hoisting of the national flag and the port flag at the premises of Bandar Bhaban. Port Chairman Rear Admiral M Shahjahan hoisted the National Flag and Board Member (Finance) Md. Kamrul Amin hoisted the flag of the port. Port members, directors, secretaries, divisional heads, sub-divisional heads, and CBA leaders were present at the time.
Although the history of Chittagong port is thousands of years old, it officially started its journey on 25 April 1887. 135 years have passed since then. Chittagong port has been leading foreign trade as the main port of the region from the very beginning. With the growing import-export trade of the country, the range of the port has increased. The authority is implementing mega projects like Matarbari deep-sea terminal to meet future demands. Bay Terminal is also another big project. Construction of the Patenga Container Terminal with a handling capacity of about 5 lac TEUs per year is almost complete. Authority expects it to go into operation next July.
On the occasion of the day, the authority has published special supplements in national and local newspapers on the development, contribution, and importance of Chittagong port. It includes speeches by His Excellency the President, Prime Minister, State Minister for Shipping, Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Shipping, Secretary of Shipping, and Chairman of Chittagong port.
