Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought the assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the implementation of Delta Plan-2100, saying that it is very important for Bangladesh.
She made the request during a courtesy call on ADB Vice President (Operations-1) Shixin Chen at the Prime Minister’s official residence Ganobhaban on Monday (9 May) morning. News: BSS
After the meeting, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists. During the meeting, the Prime Minister sought the assistance of ADB for enhancing regional cooperation in communication, trade, and energy.
The ADB Vice President assured to stand by Bangladesh’s development efforts. He said, ‘We have a strong relationship with Bangladesh and ADB will stand by Bangladesh. We will continue to support the country’s rural and urban development.’
The ADB Vice President praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s dynamic leadership in keeping the wheel of Bangladesh’s economy moving amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said, ‘Due to the far-sighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has kept the wheel of the country’s economy in motion amid the COVID-19 pandemic.’
He added that ADB expects Bangladesh to be able to achieve 7% GDP growth.
Appreciating the overall development of Bangladesh, Shixin Chen said, ‘Bangladesh is now going through a transition period, which is usually a bit complicated. But Bangladesh is doing well.’
Among others present at the time were Ambassador at large Mohammad Ziauddin, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Kaikaus, Economic Relations Department (ERD) Secretary Fatima Yasmin, ADB Deputy Director General (South Asian Department) Manmohan Parkash, and ADB Country Director for Bangladesh Edimon Ginting.
