Mentioning that remittances sent by expatriates are currently supporting Bangladesh like a pillar, Minister of Finance AHM Mustafa Kamal said that already this year 21 billion dollars have been sent so far. He said that the flow of remittances has increased due to making the right decision at the right time. Remittances have now reached 21 billion in less than a year, compared to an average of 14 billion dollars a year in the past.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the four-day digital census training program on Wednesday (25 May).
The event was organised by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.
Minister of Planning M A Mannan addressed the event in a video message presided over by BBS Director-General Mohammad Tajul Islam. Special guests were Cabinet Secretary (Coordination and Reforms) Samsul Arefin, N M Ziaul Alam, Senior Secretary of Information and Communication Technology Department, and Shahnaz Arefin, Secretary of Statistics and Information Management Department. The keynote address was given by Dildar Hossain, Director of the Census and Housing Project, and Dipankar Roy, Deputy Secretary of BBS.
