South Korean company Messrs’ HKD Bangladesh Limited is going to set up manufacturing industries for tents, tent equipment, camping furniture, and camping equipment in BEPZA economic zone.
The company will invest USD 35.03 million in the BEPZA economic zone, which will create employment opportunities for 6,650 Bangladeshi citizens.
BEPZA member (Investment Development) Ali Reza Majid and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Messrs’ HKD Bangladesh Limited Chul Hee Kim signed an agreement on behalf of their respective companies on Thursday (26 May) at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka. BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, NDC, PSC was present at the time.
The company will annually produce 1 crore and 88 lac pieces of tents, backpacks, bags, steel poles, fiberglass poles, traveller’s bags, gazebo, screen houses, cots, pet carriers, camping furniture, chairs, tables, float tube bags, wagons, tarps, trolleys, purses, steel wires, walking sticks, steel accessories, steel ferrules, steel pegs, O-Rings, D-Rings, steel trips, reverts, screws, washers, steel brackets, nut with washers, tent accessories, cotton blinders, wallets/purses, bag accessories, and sleeping bags.
HKD, a wholly foreign-owned company, started its journey in 1990 at Chattogram EPZ. HKD Bangladesh Limited is the fifth initiative of HKD Group with BEPZA. The group has four factories in Chattogram and Karnaphuli EPZs, where about USD 100 million has been invested in the production of tents, camping equipment, and readymade garments. About 10,000 Bangladeshis are working in the factories.
BEPZA has given permission to 8 companies including Messrs’ HKD Bangladesh Limited to set up industries in BEPZA economic zone.
Among others, BEPZA member (Engineering) Mohammad Farooq Alam, member (Finance) Nafisa Banu, Executive Director (Public Relations) Nazma Binte Alamgir, Executive Director (Investment Development) Md. Tanvir Hossain, Executive Director (Enterprise Services) Md. Khurshid Alam and BEPZA Economic Zone Project Director Md. Hafizur Rahman were present at the signing ceremony.
