We have given priority to ‘Made in Bangladesh’ in the budget: Minister of Finance

Minister of Finance AHM Mustafa Kamal has said that to encourage domestic entrepreneurs, the budget proposal for the fiscal year 2022-23 has proposed to impose value-added tax (VAT) on imports of laptops, mobile phones, etc.

‘We want to increase the demand for “Made in Bangladesh” products,’ he said.

He said this while addressing a post-budget press conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Friday (10 June).

Minister of Finance AHM Mustafa Kamal said, ‘I have given importance to one issue since the last budget. That is ‘Made in Bangladesh’. If quality products are produced in the country, then we prefer not to import from abroad. We discourage importing goods from abroad.’

Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Education, and Minister of State for Planning were present at the post-budget press conference.

Earlier on Thursday, the Minister of Finance presented a budget of Tk 6 lacs 78 thousand and 64 crores for the next fiscal year in the parliament. This time the growth target has been set at 7.5%. The government wants to keep inflation at 5.6%.
