Abdur Rouf Talukder is the new Governor of Bangladesh Bank

Abdur Rouf Talukder is the new Governor of Bangladesh Bank. On Saturday (11 June), the Finance Ministry’s Financial Institutions Division issued a circular appointing him for four years. He has been asked to join on 4 July. Abdur Rouf Talukder is currently working as Finance Secretary. He will replace the current Governor Fazle Kabir. Fazle Kabir, who served for six years in two phases, will complete his term on 3 July.

The circular signed by Deputy Secretary of the Department of Financial Institution Md. Jehad Uddin states that he has been appointed on the condition of retiring from government service and giving up work relations with other organisations. He has been appointed as the Governor of Bangladesh Bank for four years from 4 July, the date of his joining. It further said that Abdur Rouf Talukder will receive salary/allowance and other benefits from Bangladesh Bank as per the agreement executed with the government during his tenure as Governor.

Abdur Rouf Talukdar’s home is in the Sirajganj district. He holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. He also holds a master’s degree in development management from a university in the United Kingdom.

BCS 1985 batch officer Abdur Rouf Talukder joined the government service as an officer of the Secretariat cadre. This cadre was dissolved and merged with the administration cadre about 20 years ago. During his career, he was the Deputy Registrar of the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Ministry of Industries, First Secretary, Embassy of Bangladesh in Malaysia, Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Food and Ministry of Information, Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary, Department of Finance of the Ministry of Finance.
