Two state-of-the-art tugboats (support vessels) made in China have been added to the fleet at Chittagong port. Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Chairman of the port authority, officially inaugurated the activities of the two tugboats at noon on Thursday (16 June). The two tugboats have been named Kandari-3 and 4. Each has a capacity of 75 tonnes of bollard pull.
Modern technology ASD tugboats can rotate 360 degrees in one place. That is why the tugs can more efficiently assist large commercial vessels in towing, pulling, pushing, etc.
The tugs have two powerful 6 thousand 300 BHP engines. It has a powerful fire extinguisher, capable of extinguishing any fire on ships and jetties by efficiently throwing water and foam from a distance of about 120 metres. In addition, if there is pollution from oil in the river, it can deal with the pollution by spraying special chemicals. The two tugs have state-of-the-art radars, GPS, echo sounders, auto pilot, UMS, wireless and satellite communications. As a result, even in the deep sea, it can support any ship in adverse weather conditions. According to the fuel capacity, the tugboats will be able to run for one month at sea at a stretch.

Omar Farooq, Secretary, divisional heads, and sub-divisional heads were present at the opening ceremony.
