Shrimp exports to Russia and Ukraine have been stopped for five-and-a-half months. Right after overcoming the turmoil of COVID-19, the Russia-Ukraine war affected exports of frozen shrimp. Exports to other European countries have also declined. The exporters are in trouble. Humayun Kabir, Vice-President of Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA), informed the media about this.
Exporters said that due to COVID-19, shrimp exports were in decline from March 2020 to last February. The Russia-Ukraine war began before that turmoil was completely over. Due to this, shrimp worth around Tk 46 crores could not be exported.
According to the Fish Inspection and Quality Control data, 731 tonnes of shrimp worth Tk 58 crores and 44 lacs were exported to Russia in the fiscal year 2020-21. In the fiscal year 2021-22, 240 tonnes have been exported, the value of which is Tk 20 crores and 26 lacs. In the fiscal year 2020-21, 119 tonnes of shrimp worth Tk 11 crores were exported to Ukraine. In the fiscal year 2021-22, 29 tonnes have been exported, the price of which was Tk 3 crores and 21 lacs.
