Chittagong Port Authority observed National Mourning Day with due dignity

The Chairman and board members of the port authority are laying wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu

Chittagong Port Authority celebrated the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day with due dignity through various programs throughout the day. On Monday (15 August) the Chairman of the authority Rear Admiral M. Shahjahan, NPP, BCGMS, NDC PSC, BN, and council members laid wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation and planted trees in the port building premises. It was attended by all department heads and all levels of officers and employees and the Port Employees’ Council President, General Secretary, and other heads.

Later, the port Chairman joined the condolence meeting, Khatam-e-Quran, and Dua Mahfil organised by the Port Employees’ Council as the chief guest. He said in his speech, ‘After the killing of Bangabandhu, we were disoriented. We questioned how the country would be led, and how the country will move forward. After Bangabandhu, the conspirators took over the power of the country by killing the national leaders. After long twenty-one years, Bangabandhu’s daughter ‘Deshratna’ Sheikh Hasina came to power and steered the country on the right path.’

He also said that the Bengali nation is inspired and united by the words of Bangabandhu. Officials and employees of all levels appeared today at Chittagong port and proved that they are determined to continue the activities for the development of the country inspired by the words of Bangabandhu. Bangabandhu understood the immense importance of Bangladesh’s maritime area. For that, he enacted the Maritime Zone and Territorial Act soon after independence, through which we got an exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles. The United Nations was able to enact this law much later in 1982.

The port Chairman said that Bangladesh is moving in the right direction under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter. She made Bangladesh a role model for development with his wisdom and forethought. Many countries in the world are jealous of the development of Bangladesh today. The development of Bangladesh is also a matter of envy for Pakistanis.

At this time, he called on all the officers and employees of Chittagong port to work tirelessly and single-mindedly to make Bangladesh a developed country by 2041, the dream of Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla and Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After the meeting, he participated in the prayer.

Later he inaugurated the tree plantation program at Chittagong Port Girls High School. After that, he attended the discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony as the chief guest at Shahid Mohammed Fazlur Rahman Munshi Auditorium. At this time, the port Chairman wished for the forgiveness of the souls of all those who were martyred on 15 August and prayed for their souls to be granted Jannah. Later, he distributed prizes to the contestants who participated in the discussion on Bangabandhu’s life and contribution.

Apart from this, after the Zuhr prayer, the Chairman, members, and department heads of the authority participated in the Dua Mahfil at the Port Central Jame Masjid. On the occasion of the day, the national flag was kept at half-mast at all installations of the port.
