Handling charges of export goods in ICDs increased by 25%

The Bangladesh Inland Container Depot Association (BICDA) has increased the export cargo and empty container handling charges at private inland container depots (ICDs) by 25%. BICDA is an association of ICD owners. BICDA took this decision in a meeting with Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association in Dhaka on Sunday (21 August).

Earlier, from 4 November last year, the Private Inland Container Depot (ICD) had increased handling charges by 23% on both import and export goods. On 11 August, BICDA increased the handling charges of imported goods by 35% citing the rise in fuel prices. On 17 August, empty container handling charges were increased by 24% after the increase in import charges.

Handling charges for export goods have increased by 48% after the recent increase. Before November 2021, the cost of handling a container of 20 feet size (TEU) was Tk 7,511. Now it has increased by Tk 5,569 taka to Tk 13,080.

After fixing the import and export handling charges in 2010, BICDA increased the charges by 16% in 2016 and 15% in March 2020.
