Members of River Police arrested 12 persons including seven staff of a lighter vessel while stealing scrap materials from the vessels on Karnaphuli River in the city on Wednesday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of River Police Sadarghat Station ABM Mizanur Rahman said, on receiving information, they carried out a drive in the Diamond Ghat area of the river and arrested twelve persons while they were stealing imported scarps from the lighter vessel ‘MV Titu-7.’ A total of 1,250 kg of the scraps, wire-seal cutting machines and several other tools were recovered from their possessions during the drive, he said.
