Chittagong Port observed World Maritime Day

The World Maritime Day 2022 is being observed on Thursday (29 September) globally with the theme ‘New Technologies for Green Shipping.’ In accordance with that, Chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Rear Admiral M Shahjahan inaugurated different programmes at the port this morning.

CPA Chairman in his speech said, the world is putting much emphasis on reducing carbon emissions. We are also applying different methods to reduce emission from our gears and machines besides implementing current and future projects keeping in compliance with environment.

Chittagong Port has its own Environment Management Unit (EMU). On many of the roofs of our different buildings including Bandar Bhaban we have installed solar panels that are playing big roles in cutting carbon emission.

The port chairman gave directives to include reduction of carbon emission and new technology in the training curriculum of the port training institute.

Deputy conservator Captain Faridul Alam gave the welcome speech at the event moderated by Assistant Harbour Master Md. Mustahidul Islam and attended by the board members, directors, departmental heads including officers and staff of the port.
