Two more ready-made garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh have been accredited as green factories by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Among these, Aman Textile Limited of Gazipur received the platinum rating and Ayesha Fashion Limited in Dhaka the gold rating.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Director Mohiuddin Rubel said this to the media on Monday (2 October).
Aman Textile Limited got 89 points in the platinum category, while Ayesha Fashion got 64 points in the gold category, he added. With this, the total number of eco-friendly factories in the country’s clothing sector has reached 173, he added.
Bangladesh tops the list of the green factory category in the world featuring 54 factories with platinum rating, 105 factories in gold rating and 10 factories in silver rating.
According to BGMEA, green factories are said to help cut down energy use by 40% and water consumption by more than 30% and also emit less carbon dioxide which further ensures environmental safety. These buildings also ensure a safe workplace for workers as the factory owners have to follow certain rules for the construction of the buildings.
