Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home after attending the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in the UK and the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the USA. A VVIP chartered flight carrying the premier and her entourage landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The flight earlier took off from Washington DC for Dhaka at around 6:30pm on Sunday local time. The prime minister left for London on 15 September to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the reception accorded by King Charles III marking his ascension to the throne.
Later from London, the premier went to New York in the USA on 19 September. On 20 September She met UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres at the UN Headquarters and attended the reception given by the US President Joe Biden in the evening.
She also attended the inauguration ceremony of the UN’s 77th General Assembly. Besides, she had a bilateral meeting with Slovenian President Borut Pahor. She also had a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.
On 21 September the prime minister Sheikh Hasina had bilateral meetings with the Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso Mendoza and Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu discussing various issues of mutual interests. On the sideline of the general assembly the prime minister attended a programme on ‘Sustainable Housing’ and ‘Meeting of the Champions of the Global Crisis Response Group’ respectively. In addition, she also inaugurated a photography exhibition on the Padma Bridge at the UN Headquarters.
On 22 September the prime minister attended a round table meeting with the US-Bangladesh Business Council and a meeting on Antibacterial Resistance, including a high-level meeting on the Rohingya issue. On the same day, she also had a bilateral meeting with the Cambodian Prime Minister Hu Sen while IOM Director General Antonio Vitorino and ICC prosecutor Nick Klein and Karim Khan had courtesy calls on the premier.
On 23 September Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the UN General Assembly in her mother tongue in Bengali where she called for building a sustainable and peaceful world through resolving all issues via mutual dialogue and discussions avoiding the ways of imposing forceful economic sanctions and vice versa.
Sheikh Hasina virtually attended a reception ceremony given by the expatriate Bangladeshis in New York on 24 September. From there she left for Washington, DC and stayed over there till 2 October.
