The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed an agreement with a 3-member delegation of Portico Shipping Limited of Portsmouth, UK, on Sunday. The signing ceremony took place at the Chamber’s office at the World Trade Centre. Chittagong Chamber President Mahbubul Alam and Portico Shipping Limited Managing Director Stephen Williams MBE signed the MoU on behalf of the respective organization.
Chamber president Mahbubul Alam said that a few days ago, the direct shipping service of Chittagong port with Italy’s Ravenna port was started. It includes Bangladesh’s export trade with the UK, France, Netherlands and Belgium. No doubt, direct shipping with any port in the region will save both money and time. So, if Portsmouth Portico port in the UK is convenient for us then direct shipping with Portico port can be considered.
Portico Shipping Ltd Managing Director Stephen Williams MBE said that Portsmouth is a private open port. Besides this port has a one stop service facility. Through which, starting from the redemption of the product, the delivery of the product to the specific destination is facilitated which is economical and time saving.
Therefore, using these facilities, goods can be exported directly from Bangladesh to the UK market by ship and this port will be a transhipment hub for Bangladesh’s exports to that region.
Chamber Vice President Syed Mohammad Tanveer, Portico Shipping Limited Business Consultant Mahbub Nur Mabs and Business Development Manager Vanessa Sherry, Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association Director Shahed Sarwar, Karnaphuli Ship Builders Limited Advisor Consultant Captain Amirul Islam and Trusted Shipping Line Executive Director Wahid Alam were also present at the signing ceremony.
