To ease the pressure of containers and facilitate Bangladesh’s import-export trade, two new private container depots or ICDs are set to be launched in 2024 in the port city of Chittagong, at a cost of around Taka 800 crore.
Reports say, each ICD is set up on 20 acres of land while Dhaka-based AGC Group has invested in Bay Link Containers Depot in Barabkunda area of Sitakunda, 35 km away from the Chittagong port and the other is Anchorage Containers Depot located in South Kattali area, 10 kms from the Chittagong Port.
At present, there are 19 ICDs in Bangladesh with a combined storage capacity of 76,000 TEUs that will increase to 88,000 TEUs as soon as these two come into operation.
