CCTV surveillance of Dhaka-Ctg highway

To step-up security for the transportation of export-oriented goods on the highways, the government is taking pragmatic measures to bring all the national and regional highways under video surveillance.

To this end, the installation work of about 1,500 closed circuit TV (CCTV) cameras on 450 camera poles from the Signboard area to Chattogram City Gate covering 250 kilometers on the Dhaka-Ctg highway has already begun. Underground optical fibre setting work is also complete.

Highway Police Command and Monitoring Centre at Meghna Ghat will be responsible for the control and operation of the CCTV cameras. To discuss the other relevant things, a meeting was held with senior officials of the ministry, the police, and the other stakeholders at the secretariat last week.

Officials said, all the CCTV cameras from Signboard to Daudkandi will come into operation in March and the rest of them, by June. The total installation work will cost Tk 129 crore while the operation of the CCTV cameras will cost about Tk one crore each month.
