Shipping Minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has stated that the Ministry of Shipping is implementing 39 projects in the current fiscal year. These include the development of Matarbari Seaport, the Be-Terminal at Chittagong Port, the upgrade of Mongla Port, the complete visibility of Payra Port, the acquisition of four vessels for the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, and the development of local ports, resulting in significant progress in the maritime sector. The Ministry of Shipping is set to reach unprecedented heights in the next three years. The Ministry of Shipping is transforming to become the Ministry of Maritime Affairs soon.
During the signing ceremony of the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) for the fiscal year 2023-24 at the ministry on Tuesday (June 20), the Minister was the chief guest and made these remarks. He also handed over the integrity award for the fiscal year 2022-23. The ministry signed agreements with 11 departments and institutions under its authority. Secretary Md. Mostafa Kamal, on behalf of the ministry, and the heads of the respective departments and institutions signed the APA.
The state minister emphasized that the recent call from the Prime Minister of Ukraine to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signifies her global leadership position. He urged for the continuation of development work under Sheikh Hasina’s guidance, while effectively countering any conspiracies that may arise. The Ministry has the potential to generate substantial foreign currency, as evidenced by the investments and expressed interest from various countries in its affiliated organizations.
Addressing the subordinate departments and organizations, the state minister stressed the importance of not only signing agreements but also making maximum efforts to ensure their successful implementation.
