Chittagong Port shows progress in two key indicators

Chittagong Port has demonstrated notable progress in two out of three handling indicators during the recently concluded financial year. Based on fiscal year statistics, cargo handling and vessel handling have shown improvement, while container handling has witnessed a decline.

In the fiscal year 2022-2023, the container handling at Chittagong Port amounted to 3,007,344 TEUs, indicating a decrease of 248,014 TEUs compared to the previous financial year. Despite this decrease, Chittagong Port has maintained its three-million handling position. During the fiscal year 2021-2022, Chittagong Port successfully handled 3,255,358 TEUs.

On the other hand, cargo handling has experienced an increase of 122,000 metric tonnes in the last financial year, reaching a total of 118,296,743 metric tonnes. In the preceding fiscal year, 118,174,160 metric tonnes of cargo were handled at the port.

Additionally, during the first half of the fiscal year 2022-2023, Chittagong Port welcomed 4,253 ships, surpassing the previous financial year’s count of 4,231 ships. This indicates a growth of 22 ships during this period.
