The 93rd birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, the esteemed wife of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Tuesday.
The Chittagong Port Authority marked the occasion with due respect and honour. The commemoration encompassed a series of activities, including discussions, essay and quiz competitions participated by the students, and the distribution of prizes.
Commodore Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, the acting chairman and member (Engineering) at the port, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Bangamata was born on August 8, 1930, in the village of Tungipara within the then-Gopalganj subdivision. Fondly known by the nickname ‘Renu’, she was the cherished daughter of Sheikh Zahurul Haque and Hosne Ara Begum. She was the youngest among her siblings, having one brother and two sisters.
Tragedy struck on the fateful night of August 15, 1975, when she was brutally martyred by the assailants who targeted the Father of the Nation.
To honour the birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Necha Mujib, His Excellency the President and the Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conveyed separate messages. These messages reflected the enduring legacy of Bangamata and the profound impact she had on the nation.
